Probably a dumb question... why did it sell for so much over the sticker price?

99K - 76K = 23K.

availability

we're one of the largest dealers in the region, and we get 6 this year. we've taken 15+ deposits for right of first refusal.

it's a really really cool car. beats the porsches that cost 30k more.

look for it on youtube.

Top Gear's opinion
Quote:
For all-round ability, I have no doubt the Nissan is the best car I've ever driven. It is almost as fast as the Porsche - which means it's almost as fast as any car on earth - and inspires more confidence through corners, yet it's also more roomy and practical and has a proper modern gearbox.

It's a big, solid car you can rely on when the going gets tricky, that you can thrash around a track, then set the suspension to soft, the transmission to auto, the Bose audio to full bass and potter into town without a trace of angst.

Oh, I nearly forgot - price. The 911 Turbo comes in at about £100,000, which is good value for such a stupendous car, but the GT-R will cost about £40,000 less than that when it goes on sale in the UK in 2009.

Mizuno-san is right. This car has no competitors. Not at any price.
And even at the higher price, still cheaper in the US than the UK.
Tax I guess.

You can switch back and forth? I thought people who liked to drive stick were die-hards who would never drive automatic, even if they were just going to "potter into town."

I prefer to drive stick (manual). but the automatic is better for when you're trying to eat breakfast and organize your purse (sort out yer handbag).

it has paddle shifters on the steering wheel, but you can just let it go auto if you want.

Cool, that means they've put the CVT into the top car, they must be pretty confident about it.

I don't think they've built a CTV that will handle 500 horsepower.
I believe it has a rear mounted, 6 speed, dual clutch, semi-automatic, that is computer controlled, with manual controls that will override the computer to some extent. But, I'll bet the computer will intervene if you're being stupid enough to damage the drive-train.

what bruce said.

the CVT is Constant Velocity Transmission. it doesn't appear to shift. like a cone gear.

the gtr has gears.

The coolest thing imo about the cvt is not speeding up when you go down a hill. The not shifting thing... meh. Doesn't seem natural.
