So I watched the NEW Ren & Stimpy...
An acquaintance of mine has a job-related connection to the television industry, and managed to borrow a preview copy of the new Ren & Stimpy pilot for the weekend. (It's going to air on Thursday, June 26th on Spike TV (TNN) at 10 PM, followed by Gary the Rat, Stripperella, and Ren & Stimpy Classics (the old Nick episodes with the Nick censorship removed.))
A few mostly-nonspoilerish insights: * You'll never think of baseball the same way again. * The relationship between Ren and Stimpy has... changed a bit. * This episode, for lack of a better description, may be a decade's worth of Nickelodeon-censor frustration coming out in a thirty-minute broadcast. Whoof. If you thought the gross-out humor was their trademark in the old days, wait 'til you get a load of them now in their South Park-esque time slot. Which doesn't surprise me at all, really. I do wonder if John K. will do what Parker & Stone did with South Park -- attract initial viewers by being raunchy, then hook 'em with some nifty writing and inventive storylines -- or if he'll keep playing the booger-joke card that got him here. Either way, it should be epic in the telling. |

It's good to know that everyone's favorite psychotic dog and cat team will be back. I was always dissapointed out how few were initally made back in 1992. So consequently I have them all memorized. So the relationship between Ren and Stimpy has changed?.....no more fat bloated eeediot?
