Composing Nerd Music

I was commissioned this last week to write music for a group here in LA called the Robin Cox Ensemble. Their thing isn't for everybody, but it's the kind of thing music nerds go nuts over. The ensemble is Violin, Cello, Piano, two percussionists, and 2 audio manipulators (engineers running audio software to control real-time playback and fx)

So, I decided to dial up the geek factor on the piece. It's named Twin Primes Conjecture.

The tempo is 137 (a twin prime)
The time signature moves from 3/4 to 5/4 (twin primes)
It lasts 41 measures (a twin prime)
AND ... just happens to last exactly 59 seconds (a twin prime)

Who cares if it's any good musically, it's mathematically AWESOME!
