And I don't talk about any of this stuff at work

(Didn't post this here to get a new thread in "Relationships"...)

I'm 7 months into my gig, and the people at work sometimes talk about politics and religion. I have even ruled out talking politics with my loved ones, so I just kind of shut up when any discussion turns that way.

I hope it doesn't get awkward. I have a fantasy plan B where I say I'm studying to be a Zen Master, and so I can act only as a witness, not as a participant.

I'm just not going to head into it in a place where, if people hate me for some political view, it makes it harder to work together. (I love everybody, as a personal policy.)

What do you think?

Plus, I have a theory that people who like you just assume that you're on their side. And vice-versa, if they hate you, they assume you are a political enemy too. I have see this happen from both sides. But I don't want to agree with someone just for the purpose of getting them to like me. That seems like a terrible kind of dishonesty.
