Building properly is done all over shakey parts of the world. Just because earthquakes exist does not mean buildings should fall down. Buildings that fell were defective. Failure directly traceable to humans.

A problem made worse in Haiti because so many more buildings were constructed defectively. Five buildings in that picture. Only a defective one failed. Building so that earthquakes do not destroy a building is understood. But not always implemented. In Memphis, I fear tremendous damage. As stated repeatedly, that region does not take 'earthquake proofing' seriously.

Curious were 50 some earthquakes in Arkansas only in the past two weeks.

Nail-head. The quake was very shallow, something unheard of in that part of the country. They never expected it. Looks like CC will be rebuilt Japanese style.
