Employment Wanted for Former Marijuana Smuggler

A friend of mine scanned this for me.. Pretty interesting I think. Dude is upfront and honest about his past, and using his skills running a dope ring to try and get a legal job.

Your friend scanned that for you?

Interesting... I have the same picture, which I found somewhere on March 9, 2001. Same circling, same thing written on top, except that in mine it's circled and written in blue pen.

That being said, I think that it's hilarious =]. He probably is going to find a good job soon... This is a good advertisement. He's honest, responsible, skillful, and has good leadership skills. He has public recognition (from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police), knows several languages, and has done extensive public speaking.

Okay, I'll stop gleaning here.

There's a website about this guy: http://brianodea.com/
Seems a little uncoherent, but there's plenty of cool bits of information there.

What I found most interesting is that he had already changed, and was working in a drug rehab center etc before he was arrested/convicted. Makes you wonder whether he should've had that jail sentence at all. Is the purpose of jail to change people (which wasn't necessary for him anymore) or to punish them? (And really, what good does punishment do if it doesn't matter whether the person changes or not?)

Food for thought...

That's the kind of guy you want on your team. Imagine what the Border Patrol could do with him.

I've seen this somewhere before, too. Are you just pulling our leg on the friend thing or what?

When I first saw this, it was on a piece of paper at my best friend's house in Phoenix. Asked him to send it to me.

Hmmm... now that I think about it more, he probably got it off the web, printed it out, showed it to me. Then when he sent it to me, he sent his original version from the web, as opposed to scanning it. It was well over a year ago, so details are fuzzy.

Further point - why would my Phoenix friend have a Toronto newspaper? I stand corrected!

Didn't think anybody would have seen this, but it striked me as a novel approach for getting a job. 'Back in the day', I knew some dealers, of various levels. They were usually pretty innovative and motivated - skills that would have taken them pretty far in the legal business world had they choosen that route. Then again, the dealers were more fun to hang out with than boring biz manages.

That's what friends are for

NPR (National Public Radio) did a spot on this last year and interviewed the guy. I imagine they found out about it when a friend gave them a copy of the article!

Do you remember the name of the npr show, or the day or month that it was on? Or the name of the guy? If I had any of those bits of info I might be able to pull the show up on npr.org and listen to it. And that'd just be cool.

This guy's credentials are pretty impressive and I think he could try a career in these jobs: DEA agent or FBI agent but the best choice for him would be a human currency cunter machine.

if he hasn't found a job in 8 years, he's probably backslided to his former profession

This is another thing I like about the Cellar - I frequently get to learn new phrases.

Now I just have to figure out what it means.

I'm pretty sure kamalia is a spammer, but I had to let them post that gem. Did remove the link however.
