It was easy

The melted power line down the street seems to have done bad things to my desktop computer. It would no longer turn on. No little lights blipped or anything. I assumed it was the power supply and picked up a new one at Micro Center. I did go so far as to make sure that they would take the power supply back if there were other problems and I chose to pitch the computer.

I was a little nervous as I am a software guy working with hardware. This is well known to be a Bad Thing. But there's a certain freedom in knowing you can't make a situation any worse.

It turned out to be incredibly easy. Unscrew four screws, unhook all the cables and pull it out. The whole thing in reverse for the new supply. Plugged it in and everything else worked fine.

Nice one.

I think that when you cross over and attempt hardware work on your own computer just makes you feel good... When it works.
