The Green Fairy
I didn't know this until a couple days ago, but it looks like absinthe is legal in the US for production and sale, again. Will anyone that has tried it care to comment on what they think of it? ...and does that whole wormwood/thujone delirium legend hold any weight?

it has been a bit since i had it, but i remember it tasting like butt. the feeling was similar to vicodin and vodka. didn't thrill me, so YMMV.

Degas, Glass of Absinthe
It makes you look like this. Oh wait, Miller lite does that too.

I'm pretty sure that it was a tabloid scare of its time, and countries that didn't ban it didn't end up with the scary mindless people roaming the streets as predicted.
You may find the absinthe you can buy in the States doesn't contain the active ingredient anyway. I may poke about on the internet for you, but to be honest I'm not that interested myself - whatever's in it taste of aniseed and that puts it at the bottom of my things to drink list. (yes I have had it - the story's around here somewhere)

I have some green fairy in my drinks stash. You've got to add sugar for it to taste any good.
You should watch out for the green devil though. That's the one that'll knock your socks off.

Nobody ever did settle if it was the absinthe or acute alcoholism that produced the shocking occurrences.
But I remember thinking the "heure verte" pictures from turn of the 20th France showed people in a striking condition of "not there -- lights on, nobody home."

Which is why, all else being equal, that I like coffeehouses better. There the stuff people are consuming is a stimulant, not a depressant.

Kitsune, I've tried a version called Absente (I like to call it "Absentee" - that's what it made me feel like. Honestly, it reminded me very much of Arak, except it was green and overpriced.
