The UK can't be totally proud of its history, but I think more recently we've been better at tolerance. Perhaps because although we have a state religion it's based on scones and afternoon sherry and more tea Vicar?

Yeah Pennsylvania was the actual religious freedom colony. If you look at New England it was about the right of oppressed religious to in turn oppress. Talk about founding myths.

Actually it goes back to the Crusades when we stole algebra from the Arabs and refused to give it back. The Arabs retaliated by invading Spain until they were driven out in their turn by the Children's Crusade.
