More Fun TV for Old Hippies

PBS is carrying a Folk music special tonight during fundraising...lots of the great names from the late 50's and 60's, including Michelle Phillips and Denny Doherty of the Mamas and Papas, Eric Weissberg of Dueling Banjos fame, Trini Lopez (doing an absolutely killer job, and playing a Trini Lopez Special Gibson hollowbody electric), and many more. Most notable, though, are The Seekers, featuring Judith Durham, looking almost impossibly youthful, and in absolutely perfect voice. Truly amazing, after 40 years, that this woman performs "Georgie Girl" dead spot on, without a single fudged note or breath. Truly impressive.

I would also like to go on record as saying that Judy Collins is still fucking beautiful, gorgeous, astonishingly fine. Those eyes...those incredible eyes. Oh...and she, too, can still sing like nobody's business.

You get a nice break from the family and this is how you spend it--watching TV...sad. If you think you'll get away with this if/when you come to Philadelphia, you are sadly mistaken.

To be fair, it *is* dark by the time I get back to the hotel and change clothes...and I don't really know where the hell I'm going.

I did go downtown for awhile. Go look in the Images section for a couple of pics.

This is something that annoys me--PBS drums up pledges by playing stuff they hardly ever run at any other time. I read (wish I had the reference) that some station was playing The Three Tenors and they yanked it because FINALLY people got sick of it & nobody pledged.

Is that why I turned on PBS last weekend and saw... an Osmonds special???!??

Can't all the Osmonds fans see them whenever they want in their custom white bread theatre, wherever they are now?

We're so lucky to have PBS to show us the fine arts and things we can't get on the uncultured teevee... plotz
