It's Raining on My Parade

Last weekend (including all day on my birthday) we stripped and cleaned the deck ready for staining and waterproofing. I't a pretty big deck. It was a big job. We wanted to make sure we did it right so we don't have to do it again ever, or something close to that. We used brand name products and everything. The stain was ready to go,

I took one last look at the forecast and poo -a 30% chance of rain had snuck in towards the end of the 24 hour drying period. I was really tempted to go ahead and do it, but I wanted it to be good, so I held off. That was Monday. Finally, today, the forecast is clear for 3 days, nothing on the radar, so I started.

Just as I'm about to pack it in for the evening, I feel spots of rain. AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaargh. We tarped over the stain I'd done as best we could and now I have beer. Suddenly, the weather forecast mentions it might rain just now and a great green blob has magically appeared on the radar. This never happens in Michigan -we see all our weather coming from the west days in advance. *where's the bottom lip sticking out smiley?*

I'm thinking maybe it wasn't rain, but something to do with the piss gang.... ew.

We had a large wood deck, about 500 sq feet. We had to stain it and water proof it every 2 years. We used Thompson's one year and it sucked. Behr was the best and the stain and water proofing was in the same can. Rolled it on the deck and brushed it on the rails and posts.

Behr is what we're using. But after the stripping innuendo, I decided to leave that info out

Yeh my neighbor has a bigger, longer Behr deck than any I've ever seen. His wife practically spent all summer sitting on it. I was surprised she didn't get a nasty burn. Next year, with the new composite materials, I'm gonna put on a big long black Behr deck. Everyone will want to spend time there!

You might want to think about a color other than black if you're using composites - the dark colors really heat up, to the point where you can't walk on it with bare feet if it's 85 plus. We were going to choose a dark color but went with light gray after checking out the heat retention of the darker tones.

On the other hand, you may like it hot, hot, hot!
