cleaning out/ letting go
Slowly chipping away at cleaning out Dad's objects, ephemera, accessories, etc. Today I jsut tossed his old bates secretary spring open address book.
It is sad to see all the names in the book, many of whom predeceased him. It was hard to throw it away, but I couldn't find any replacement pages for it, and I am anti clutter right now. Still, it is hard to let go of these bits of his past. The things are like little monuments, mementos of his life. Ahh shit memory lane. It is tough saying goodbye all over again.

I always wanted one of those things. Now I have a Palm T|X.
It amuses me to think that they probably both appeal to the same market segment.

I went through that when my mom died, and again when I divorced. Try to use those old mementos to trigger good memories and happy times, man.

I fel for you Foot - I'm back in my old house with my sons cuz my "soon to be ex" checked herself into a rehab and I'm trying to clean up the place. There are so many things that are garbage, but I often find items that bring memories of great times rushing back and bring tears to my eyes. Letting go of the past is the only way I can move on, but it still chokes me up everytime and begs the question - Why couldn't this have worked?

I'm all over less clutter like a cheap suit. I jsut got a copy of Karen Kingston's book and it is really inspirational. I've been pitching a ton of my own stuff, and wading through dad's.
He had already spent the last twenty years of his life living like a spartan, getting rid of everything, practically. But still it is astounding how much stuff there was that we tossed. Right now I have about 4 bankers boxes worth of his stuff. Mostly his writing. About half a box of doo dads. Some day when I get my OCR running or feel like transcribing, I'll post some of his more hilarious letters.
