That would be great if they ever let me flip my belt buckle around to my backside before they cuff me. It probably wouldn't work otherwise, would it?

That's what yoga is for, so you can become flexible enough to slip your legs back through your arms.

If your buckle is smaller than your belt loops, you could just pull the entire belt around until it was behind you.
