I don't get this excited about politics...

...but a friend of mine does.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/ar...s_mccains_too/

The picture at this link shows my friend and ex-secretary Stephanie and her daughter Tayler hugging Obama after his Independence, MO appearance Monday. This morning, there was much being made of their emotional response to their encounter, but I can't find a damn thing now that I read this morning.

Her fifteen minutes is up.

Quote from that article:
"...Obama, the son of a white mother and black father,..."
For fuck's sake. What the fucking fuck does that matter?
That kind of shit gets my knickers in a twist.

I have a dream...

something something something... not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character... something something something...

Hmmm, have we missed the boat somewhere?

I just can't see McCain's "white mother and a white father" being mentioned in any articles without some sort of an outcry following it.

It's weird. 90% of blacks can vote for Obama without anyone saying they are voting for someone on the basis of their skin color.

I am white but I want to vote for the right person. I don't think as a white person I slur when I say Wwright person.

Wait, that means McCain is twice as white as Obama! But then he's not half as black. Shit I suck at math, I'm one of the seven out of five people who don't understand fractions. (or factions for that matter)

Well, political personae these days are somewhat fictional -- and political debates strictly factional. Now who'll make it all the way to factitious?

Thats actually a good point cause theres way too much reverse discriminaton nowadays. But still, Obama is the "Wwright" person so.........

So who do you want. The wright person or the bright person. More racial code words. Racism is quite alive and well in this election. Racist will be the first to deny it. Am I wright or bright? Do you know? Is it relevant? I have offered hints.

You ok, T-dub? You seem a bit short on words today. Laconic, even.

That's the first time in ages I have actually read all of one of your posts .

UG: wanna throw "farcical" in there somewhere?

I don't know Stephanie or Tayler, but Warch, whom I consider a smart and rational person, was pretty excited after going to an Obama rally, early on.

I've heard him do a prepared speech on TV and he does very well.
Now I wonder if his up close and personal charisma is that strong, or it's just that the last 8 years have been so damn depressing, a glimmer of hope for a new direction, pumps people up?

I'm no longer terribly excited about Obama. The FISA vote ended any fantasy that he would trim back the Executive branch. He's still my generation which I think makes him more sensible on foreign policy because he isn't wed to the 1960's construct of false patriotism. We can't afford another 8 years of early boomer politics. The biggest potential problem I see with an Obama Presidency is a Democrat Congress which would behave as the Republican Congress did "under" Bush. At first blush, Obama seems more willing to work out a real energy policy which for me is a big part of being a positive player on the world stage.

Farcical? Oh dear -- is there ever a time when it is absolutely no whit farcical?

The political cartoonists would all take to their beds, pull the covers over their heads and off their feet, and hope for a better dawn on the morrow when things would get back to normal.
