September 7, 2006: World's smallest boy

Ibram finds this item. The laddie on the left is Khagendra Thapa Magar. He's fourteen. Born and lives in Nepal. He's 20 inches (50 cm) high and weighs 10 pounds (4.5 kg).



Unfortunately the Guinness people have declined to put him in the Book, saying that he has to wait four more years until age 18, when he can qualify as the world's smallest man.

His father hopes to raise money by touring the lad around Nepal.

I feel sorry for the boy on the right.

All he's heard all these years is how special Khagendra is, and why couldn't he be more like his brother and earn the family some money instead of growing and growing.....

Yup, the boy on the right looks none too happy. I see therapy bills in his future!

Are we pretty sure the boy on the right isn't actually his dad? It would explain a lot...

His Dad could take him (the kid on the right) around to "raise money" for being the world's most depressed looking boy. Why don't they just join the circus?

And to top it all off they make him wear girlie sandals. They couldn't shop in the infant BOYS section? Therapy all around!

Just a quick update to this thread.

On October 14th of last year, Khagendra Thapa Magar did indeed get listed as the world's shortest man in Guinness. He had grown about 6 inches since this IOTD.

But it was short lived. Last week, Junrey Balawing, turned 18 and knocked him off the throne. Junrey is only 1 ft 11 2⁄3 inches tall.

Hard to say, imagine how tiny he'd be if he hadn't drank all that coke?

This category sees a lot of activity. It turns out that all along, there was a shorter dude.

1 foot 9.5 inches tall. That's over 2 inches shorter than the previous record holder! Chandra Bahadur Dangi is 72 years old. It makes you wonder if there is someone even shorter out there remaining to be discovered.

In this picture, it looks to me like he's squatting, but I suppose the officials at Guinness are careful about that, and that's just the way his legs are.
