November 18, 2006: Shoe car

Yet another xoB/WaPo. Don't say it... don't say it... OK do say it, it's more wacky Asians.

In this case, here is a tourist vehicle in Chongqing, China. The official caption says it's the "Foreigner Street section" of town; Googling says Foreigner Street is a location in Dali China specifically designed to sell things to tourists. How quaint that they have a specific place for tourists, as if centralized planning found that tourists want trinkets and so we will direct them all down this street where trinkets are sold, and call that the street of foreigners.

Or am I wrong?

Ibby  Saturday Nov 18 10:36 AM

Completely right, though usually they have the decency to not name the street that

rfoxx  Saturday Nov 18 10:50 AM

I'd like to see a pair of these going side-by-side down the interstate.

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday Nov 18 11:02 AM

The tourist section is like OZ and that's a ruby slipper.

Welcome to the Cellar, rfoxx.

Hahahahah...

Are you calling them whores of a different colour?

milkfish  Saturday Nov 18 11:44 AM

The tourist in the white shirt, third from the right, looks pensive. Maybe he's thinking "what's that foul smell?"

Sheldonrs  Saturday Nov 18 12:08 PM

Does it come with a shoe horn?

If the shoe fits ... uh. Sorry.

If the street signs are in Chinese, the foreign devils will never know.

I think it's not much different than Philadephia having an Italian Market or Germantown.

yeah, and can you get a Dr. Scholl's to fit it?

Elspode  Saturday Nov 18 06:06 PM

Now I'm waiting for the other shoe to dro...um...come to a screeching halt.

glatt  Saturday Nov 18 08:37 PM

Right out of a Richard Scarry book. I don't often show my kids the IotD, but they loved today's.

At this point I could make an arch comment to keep everyone on their toes, but I don't want to be a heel and get the boot.

Imelda Marcos called and wants to know if it comes in black...

and blue, and green, and gold...

If Hat Boy doesn't watch where he's going, it'll be open toe. I hope he has a pedicure.

Such a soulful comment. I'm sure that if you get fined for punning a red light, we'll all chip in to help you foot the bill.

tralfaz  Sunday Nov 19 09:23 AM

Excuse me, can you show us the way to Burning Man?

TropicFever  Sunday Nov 19 04:21 PM

is that a scarf caught in the front wheel or is that a kick stand?

xoxoxoBruce  Sunday Nov 19 11:08 PM

Mud flap, methinks.

dar512  Monday Nov 20 09:15 PM

I think there were translation difficulties. They were supposed to be building a fire engine... and instead they ended up with one huge pump.

Respect!
