February 15, 2007: Human-colored ice formations

Nothing but the official cap today, I'm busy:

Quote:
Drivers along U.S. 19 near Rivesville, W.Va. get a colorful ice display thanks to Rich DeMary, 43, who mixed food coloring into gallon jugs of water, then poured them over icicles hanging off the rocks, Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007. DeMary, who lives in the small Marion County town, says he's been doing this for about eight years, just to brighten the day of passers-by. He created this display last week.

Something about DeMary doing this on his lunch hour from the toxic chemical plant at the top of the hill?

Just kidding, he's the third generation operator of a grocery store in Rivesville. He's been doing it for 8 years and nobody has hassled him about it. I guess they like it...... or maybe because he was the 1994 West Virginia body building champion and still keeps himself in top shape.

Yeah, the title of the image confused me as well

That's what I thought, too. Why stop at food colouring? He should add aromas as well. Strawberry, Apricot, Mint, .... :p

Kitsune  Friday Feb 16 04:25 PM

Gah, that's tacky. I guess nature's not beautiful enough, so I'm off to spray paint some trees.

Kitsune  Friday Feb 16 04:28 PM

...on second thought, I'd forgotten how bleak and gray winter is. Hmm.

I remember when I lived in CA, during a long drought period, people actually painted their lawns green!

When my kids were at preschool, one of the snow activities they did was colour the snow with food color in spray bottles. They loved it, so now, when the snow idea starts to get old in March, I let them decorate the snow. Fortunately it melts soon after that

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Feb 16 11:16 PM

That's a great idea monster....and if you can't stand it, drag out the garden hose and it's gone.

smillie  Saturday Feb 17 08:25 AM

We used to color the ice and snow when we were kids. Of course the only color we had was yellow....

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday Feb 17 08:35 PM

Ah ha, so your the one that made the yellow snow. You sure covered a lot of ground, you've been at least everywhere I've been, in the winter.

bluecuracao  Saturday Feb 17 09:39 PM

Most of the snow in my neighborhood is yellow. That's what I get for living near a bunch of bars.
