February 28, 2007: Snow angel record

It's a new record, in Bismarck, ND. In 2002 IotD covered an early snow angel record, but since then the numbers have snowballed (sorry) to 8,900 participants, and this is what it looks like from above.

look out for dog poo.....

Sundae  Wednesday Feb 28 10:08 AM

I'm surprised at the predominance of orange clothing - is it a common winter colour in the US - high visibility wear maybe?

Yes, great for forming a "cross" when a photo op presents itself.

LabRat  Wednesday Feb 28 10:43 AM

Ding ding ding ding.

Tell him what he's won, Bob.

Yes, for hunters. Supposedly so they don't shoot each other, but it doesn't always work...ask Cheney. Then, of course the deer got ahold of the idea. They sit around in their orange parkas and laugh and laugh.

barefoot serpent  Wednesday Feb 28 10:48 AM

Too bad Spencer Tunick wasn't in town.

Saknussem  Wednesday Feb 28 10:59 AM

If you look closely, the folks in orange are attempting to make, I believe, a cross. That sign of persecution and hatred for and of millions of people and thousands of years. JUST KIDDING!! haha How many of you are seeing red right now? Hehe

Okay, my REAL COMMENT is based on a quote from the linked article:
"Edna Arvidson, 84, of Bismarck, said she participated in the city's record-setting event in 2002.
'It's fun and puts us on the map," Arvidson said. "People think there's nothing going on up here.'"

You know, I don't think I am going to comment after all. After an eloquent statement like that, I don't believe I need to.

My wife and I tend to buy bright colored winter coats for our kids. Both because the bright colors counter the dreary gray winter weather and also to make them more visible to drivers and hopefully somewhat less likely to be run over.

elSicomoro  Wednesday Feb 28 12:36 PM

Why does this remind me of the South Park episode where the 4 million kids played "My Country Tis Of Thee" on recorders?

Trilby  Wednesday Feb 28 04:48 PM

Always with the snow angels! Never snow devils!

BigV  Wednesday Feb 28 05:07 PM

Only when hell freezes over, darling.

footfootfoot  Wednesday Feb 28 07:40 PM

(expletive deleted) have to go pushing their (expletive deleted) agenda every (expletive deleted) chance they get.

It's SNOW ANGELS people, has nothing to do with god.

(that guy), next they'll be trying to put the X back in Xmas.

xoxoxoBruce  Wednesday Feb 28 08:48 PM

New gun control laws lead maniacs to seek alternate methods for school massacres.

DucksNuts  Wednesday Feb 28 11:07 PM

SPUCK  Thursday Mar 1 06:28 AM

So what... this is everyone who lives in North Dakota?

Or

Is this what happens when one of those grossly over-sized Airbus' comes apart at 30,000feet?

lumberjim  Sunday Mar 4 09:30 PM

I was scrolling my way down to the quick reply to note that this would have been a whole lot more interesting if Spencer Tunick had arranged it ...

Don't they go both ways? More if you steer.

yes, but lj's is heading for those already mown down -those behind and to the left have yet to succumb.... the invisible bulldozer/steamroller/whatever is clearly heading in s NW direction.

xoxoxoBruce  Monday Mar 5 04:57 AM

What I'm asking is how do you know if LJ's is coming or going, since unlike a car, they are equally adept at both?

lumberjim  Monday Mar 5 06:02 AM

i saw mine heading upwards. i put it there because the people below it look flattened, and thos above look to be still standing. it was a quick cut n paste, to be sure......meh, it was the thought that counted, and monster beat me to that, so....

You mean, "are rollers Bi"?

monster  Monday Mar 5 08:09 AM

Grief! you lot are altogether too serious about your rollers! Here's some more for you -I understand these go both ways too, but the smaller ones are better for beards. I'll happily stand corrected on this

xoxoxoBruce  Monday Mar 5 04:50 PM

When somebody posts a statement that I don't understand, I usually question it. I've learned a lot by doing that, because more often than not, the poster has knowledge I don't or has thought of an angle that never occurred to me.

Everyone I meet is a potential teacher..... until I eat their brains, anyway.
