August 23, 2007: Scary facial tumor [kinda graphic] and giant hand

Reuters has the video of this gent, Huang Chunsai, a story that was also sent to IotD by a user whose name I can't match to a Cellar userid.

Chunsai has lived as a recluse until now, at age 31, when docs say they want a shot at removing this stuff. He's survived the first operation, removing 10kg of tumor... less than half of the entire 23kg. But he pretty much still looks like a mutant.

And this is after that first operation. Repeat, the above picture is after. The video shows him in much worse condition, before the operation. It really is much worse, even more gross, so be notified.

If that wasn't enough. No, this is a different guy in China; Lui Hua was born with a birth defect where his thumb and first two fingers kept on growing and growing.

Spexxvet  Thursday Aug 23 08:33 AM

It's Jabba the Hut. I'd like to see CSI take fingerprints from the second guy. :p

There is not a recipe out there that would get me to eat this IotD.

barefoot serpent  Thursday Aug 23 09:55 AM

A few years soaking in the flesh-eating fish spa should clear that right up!

freshnesschronic  Thursday Aug 23 12:35 PM

Wow. Never seen anything like it.

DanaC  Thursday Aug 23 12:44 PM

My God, the things people can survive and adapt to. To live like that? Amazing.

lumberjim  Thursday Aug 23 12:53 PM

well, the second guy is a millionaire. yup.. he was the one that came up with those big foam fingers for fans to root on their team.

smurfalicious  Thursday Aug 23 12:57 PM

lol @ lumberjim - i showed my coworker the pics and made a foam-finger reference. she told me i was going to hell.

lumberjim  Thursday Aug 23 01:37 PM

K save me a seat!

Sarasvati48  Thursday Aug 23 01:53 PM

What is it with China and defects, especially facial defects, of this kind? Is this happening in America or other places or what? Everytime something like this comes up, it is a person from China...so weird!

lumberjim  Thursday Aug 23 01:59 PM

comes from putting pee pee in your coke

Clodfobble  Thursday Aug 23 02:07 PM

A.) China has a lot more people, so statistically, they're going to have more people with unlikely diseases.
B.) China's environmental policies aren't exactly what ours are. Crazy-ass chemicals are abundant in the air and water.
C.) China's healthcare system is horrific. Someone in the U.S. might get a tumor like this--and about the time it was the size of a grape, they would go to the doctor and have it removed. No such option in rural China.

You get cases like these from Africa, too, but they're even less likely to get volunteer medical assistance and thus be reported on.

smurfalicious  Thursday Aug 23 02:11 PM

I think that China has something like half the world's population - so it would translate into more occurrences there.

or like lumberjim said, it's the tinkle in the

Saphyre  Thursday Aug 23 04:17 PM

What gets me, is how small in stature he is. Seeing him next to the nurse (assuming she's not Yao Mings' sister), he's probably not more than 4" or so.

--------------------------------------------
Long time lurker, first time poster.

DanaC  Thursday Aug 23 04:21 PM

I'm guessing it stunted his growth. The article mentions the fact that he was teased at school for the tumours, so he's had this a long time.

runswithknives  Thursday Aug 23 05:40 PM

"Hell yeah! High fiv...wait. One, two, three, four..yeah. High five!"

I'd say he's a prime candidate for the "If your hand is bigger than your face" joke/prank.

Also, that guy would be a force on the volleyball court.

Maybe it's something in the toothpaste...

Elspode  Friday Aug 24 01:43 AM

Hold up on the Hellbound bus, I'm gettin' on:

Dude must have saved a fortune in Halloween costumes by now.

morie  Friday Aug 24 03:53 AM

and i thought i was having a bad day. reading this IotD really made things much clearer.

btw, all you China bashers, you're full of s***. china holds one fifth of the world's population so naturally, one fifth of the weird things would come from it.

not all of these things come from China- I hear that a Ukranian man is now the world's tallest.

many people on China are poor and cannot afford proper medical treatment.

Gravdigr  Friday Aug 24 05:03 AM

The first guy made me think of Jabba too. But first, I thought of Grimace from the old McDonald's commercials. As for the second guy, to paraphrase Gunnery Sgt. Hartman: "His days of finger-banging Mary Jane Rottencrotch...are OVER!"

And yes, we are all going to hell on a scholarship.

Nikolai  Friday Aug 24 09:46 AM

Who's up for a game of Rock, Paper, Giant Hand?, or how about a game of thumb wrestling? But on a serious note dame hes getting it fixed, he'd be ideal to use the original Xbox controller.

And btw Morie China has 1/6 of the worlds population, dont want to miss out on a billion people lol

HungLikeJesus  Tuesday Aug 28 09:16 PM

China's population is 1.3 billion.
The population of Earth is 6.6 billion

6.6/1.3 = 5.1

Deuce  Tuesday Aug 28 09:30 PM

*ahem*

1.3/6.6~=.2 ~ 1/5

1/6 ~ 1/5 pretty close.. your point HLJ?

xoxoxoBruce  Tuesday Aug 28 10:59 PM

The difference between 1/5 and 1/6 is about 220,000,000 people.

We are Americans, and when we really work at it, we are ugly.

But not as ugly as that guy in the IOTD ...
