Undertoad Thursday Dec 6 03:15 PMDecember 6, 2007: Robot patient
The Japanese have come up with this one, a dental patient who is... a robot. With the use of this automatron, dental students can see what it's like to drill teeth on a real-life patient before they ever drill on a real-life patient. The robot is programmed to react accurately when the drill touches a nerve.
Flint Thursday Dec 6 03:18 PMI'd drill that.
frankchicarelli Thursday Dec 6 04:40 PMThey should make a fat, ugly robot with bad teeth and bad breath. That would give the dental students a feel for what they're getting into.
LJ Thursday Dec 6 04:52 PMoh, man.....
all the oral sex/real doll jokes are getting jammed up in my head......
Drax Thursday Dec 6 04:53 PMA robotic Fat Bastard, maybe?
Sarasvati48 Thursday Dec 6 05:06 PMWhat did they do, buy one of them "Real Doll" thingies and hook it up with electronics? Boys DO play with dolls! Creepy...
Sundae Thursday Dec 6 05:24 PMWhy is she cross eyed though?

I stared at UT's post for a full three minutes, running over all the possibilities in my head.
Then I panicked and posted something quickly, just so I'd be the first one to reply.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just do something like this?

...or should we wi-fi the signal to the dentist's oral nerves instead
ZenGum Friday Dec 7 04:27 AMI saw this story on a Japanese site a month or so ago, but without the picture, so I decided not to post it here.
IIRC the funniest bit is that "her" breasts are equipped with sensors and she reacts (negatively) to inappropriate touching. Who says engineers don't have a sense of humor?

That was my first thought, too.. she looks just like a real doll. Only, I don't think they normally have crossed eyes. Is that for the ocular surgery students??

Do you think it's because she's 'looking' at the dentist's face?
...guess that's another thing the dentist needs to get used to.
I don't like this post...it's reminding me that I'm getting a root canal soon
Cloud Friday Dec 7 09:53 AMlooks like a real person to me

Dunno if she needs drilling ... you'll have to probe her cavity first.
Sheldonrs Friday Dec 7 11:17 PMIt makes sense. If you go to someone to fill your cavities, you want to be sure they know how to use their tools.
