xoxoxoBruce Tuesday Dec 11 11:46 AMDecember 11, 2007: Blonds
From Neatorama. Blonds in Europe.

Undertoad Tuesday Dec 11 12:36 PMSo in Northern Poland there are many Polish blonds.
Doesn't this enter some sort of old joke time-space continuum thing? Like the cat with buttered toast on its back?
Q: How can you tell if a Polish blond has been sitting at your computer?
A: There's white-out on the screen, but not real white-out, it's white paint.
Coign Tuesday Dec 11 12:40 PMI am polish and there are more than a few blonds in my family.
SteveDallas Tuesday Dec 11 12:42 PMI didn't expect the one beige area in the British Isles.
Do they have one for redheads??
ozswede Tuesday Dec 11 12:56 PMAnd I can tell you that most Swedes are NOT naturally blonde. Peroxide sales in Scandinavia must be through the roof to keep up the fiction.
The other thing I've noticed is that they LIE about it constantly. You compliment a friend on her highlights and she tells you it's natural! And people with 2" of obvious regrowth try and tell you that their blonde is natural as well. Spare me!

When the Vikings came to rape and pillage, you didn't expect them to stick to pillaging...!
findpolitics Tuesday Dec 11 03:34 PMI think we now know where the hole in the Ozone layer is.

I didn't expect them to be able to pillage a 7-11.
Oh wait, you weren't talking about the NFL Vikings now were you??
Trilby Tuesday Dec 11 04:51 PMisn't it funny how there's more blondes in the HEEL of Italy's boot than anywhere else in Italy? you'd think the Italian blones would be in the north.
Leah Tuesday Dec 11 07:59 PMIt would be interesting to see the stats for here in Australia. We have a huge nation of blonde heads roaming around, including myself.
busterb Tuesday Dec 11 09:18 PMHelllo Elephant lady.
Leah Tuesday Dec 11 10:00 PMHi ya
, I'm itching to get back to Thailand to be with the elephants again. I'm hoping Santa will be nice this year and give me a trip. The only problem being I've got a one year old to tow along.
There's not many blonde heads over there, I stand out in a crowd.
xoxoxoBruce Tuesday Dec 11 11:22 PMAw, you stand out in any crowd, beautiful.
Leah Tuesday Dec 11 11:24 PM

well, the Vikings did mostly come to pillage in Britain. the reason there are so many blondes in Britain now is because Britain opened up its doors to new members of the EU. Now there is nothing wrong with allowing other people free access to your country, but I think there is something racist in allowing blondes from Eastern Europe to migrate into your country while ignoring your former colonies. I mean, how is it that people from Commonwealth countries who speak English and are familiar with British insitutions like Parliament , and whose countries have given a lot to Britain for over 200 years are passed over in favour of newcomers to the European Union, some of whom don't even know the meaning of Hello and whose countries historically have had little ties with Britain?

I'd like to see a finer resolution map. There were probably viking blonds along the coasts and river systems, but I wonder how much that has diffused over time?

Clearly we can see from this map that everyone on the coast line has grey hair.

Apparently not. This is one of the original articles by the author:
http://pages.globetrotter.net/peter_...-eye-color.htm
And here is an article: Cavegirls were the first blondes to have more fun:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...058688,00.html
Frost has some interesting articles on the sexual dimorphism of skin, eye and hair color.

So basically, nothings changed.
I do find fault with the article. IMO, the only prerequisite for a man to want to have sex with a woman is the word "yes".

I didn't find it convincing either.
It maintains the presumptions that women could never hunt, and that the societies were predominantly monogamous.
It ignores the connection between skin colour and hair colour, and that lighter skin is better in low-sunlight climates because it enables more vitamin D to be produced.
Still, the study does point out that European pigmentation is very remarkable compared to the rest of the planet, and seems to have emerged very suddenly and quite recently. That does call for an explanation, and maybe they have found some contributing factors.
Sundae Saturday Dec 15 05:41 PMThere was a programme on fairly recently re tracing bloodlines back in the UK. I only caught the end of it, but it seemed less people were descended from Viking bloodlines than they (the families) had hoped.
The thing is the English (and to a far lesser extent the rest of the UK) is a mongrel race. To the extent that the description "English Rose" refers more to a strawberries and cream complexion with fair (rather than true blonde) hair. But we're pretty accepting. We are pretty much willing to call anyone successful, brave or accomplished British, despite their heritage. English is trickier - have to be born here as well as all the above.
King Saturday Dec 15 07:44 PMThere's no way more than half the people in the north of England have naturally blonde hair.
xoxoxoBruce Saturday Dec 15 11:25 PMThe highest percentage of natural redheads in the world is in Scotland (13%), followed closely by Ireland with 10%. In the US, about 2% of the population are natural redheads.
Are they considered "light haired"?
Kingswood Monday Dec 17 09:32 PMAre these statistics based on the adult population? Including kids can skew the statistics. Some kids start off with blond hair when they are young and then grow out of it.
