Feb 27, 2009: Bed of Nails

No, not the skinny Hindu in a diaper and turban type bed of nails.

This guy noticed a bunch of steel, bang with a hammer type, nails in the corner of his porch.
The next thing he knows, a bird has added a few twigs to the nails, and made a bed which she's sitting on.

She must have been good in bed because next there's eggs... then chicklets.

The bed of nails was productive.

newtimer  Friday Feb 27 03:46 AM

What a considerate mother bird.
Built-in toothpicks to take care of those stringy pieces that get stuck between my teeth after the barbecue.

SPUCK  Friday Feb 27 05:06 AM

Wow newtimer. quick to the draw!

Bird's got long nails.

Shish ka-squab!

Sheldonrs  Friday Feb 27 08:56 AM

And the babies' names are Rusty and Patina.

And here's how it all happened.

First, too many screwdrivers. Then she got hammered.
Then she got nailed.

Eggcellent.

Or would that be REproductive? Sorry...couldn't resist.

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Feb 27 11:23 AM

Quite right, I stand corrected.

Gravdigr  Friday Feb 27 04:43 PM

I can't wait til this is ova.

Cicero  Friday Feb 27 05:57 PM

Bed of (s)nails anyone?

ZenGum  Saturday Feb 28 12:57 AM

This indicates that in this bird's surroundings, nails are more easily got than twigs.

Omelette y'all get away with these puns.

Katkeeper offers this artist's eerily-correct rendition of a nest. What's the medium, K?

Katkeeper  Wednesday Mar 4 07:56 PM

It is stone, steel and the eggs are enamel on fine silver (.999 pure silver). A similar nest by the same artist is on the Enamelist Society brochure. I think I need to send her the url so that she can see a bird has copied her!

And sue the damn thing for breach of copyright. Damn freeloading animals, we should break all their legs.

xoxoxoBruce  Wednesday Mar 4 11:08 PM

That's cool, put it on your coffee table and tell guests to keep an eye out for the bird.

Katkeeper  Thursday Mar 5 07:00 PM

And the bird droppings?
