xoxoxoBruce Thursday Mar 5 01:08 AMMar 5, 2009: Hoshi Ryokan
Hoshi Ryokan is the oldest business in the world.
No, that's the oldest profession, this is the oldest business... and the oldest hotel.
Quote:
The Hoshi Ryokan (A traditional Japanese hotel) is the oldest hotel in the world since many years ago. It was not the oldest business in the World, it was the second oldest. But since Kongogumi was absorbed by another company, the Hoshi Ryokan became the oldest company in the world. The Hoshi Ryokan was founded in 717 and it has been operated by members of the same family for more than 46 generations!
|
Wow, 46 generations! I wonder how many spawn were murdered for attempting to run away and join the circus?
Of course being a traditional hotel in Japan, they must have bathing, separate indoors and mixed outdoors, in this case.

We think of all our guests as equals, and hope that you can share in the good times with everyone.

Hmm, the guests are all equal to each other, or the guests are equal to the management?
That might not set well with some westerners.

Ryokans involve sleeping on a futon on the floor, which will have straw mats on it. Damn good thing they have that lovely hot spring/bath. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Outdooor baaaaath.
Willie, I don't object to the accent mockery, but man, you're way off.

Staying in a hotel as old as the ones I can stay in in the UK.
Different customs and ones I have read up on.
And the harmony between man-made structures and nature, which seems to have been lost in Japanese cites, but it far more evident in their countryside than ours.
Oh, and being nekkid in a bath with some men, yeah

Have you seen that new season of programmes they've got planned? (I think channel 4) looking at Japanese culture. I can't wait. I think it'll be really interesting. I used to love watching Jonathon Ross's Japanorama.

I don't know. Are you turned on by bad photo composition, algae, and poor lighting?
xoxoxoBruce Sunday Mar 8 05:59 PMAlgae? No algae, hot mineral springs.
