Hoshi Ryokan is the oldest business in the world.
No, that's the oldest profession, this is the oldest business... and the oldest hotel.
| The Hoshi Ryokan (A traditional Japanese hotel) is the oldest hotel in the world since many years ago. It was not the oldest business in the World, it was the second oldest. But since Kongogumi was absorbed by another company, the Hoshi Ryokan became the oldest company in the world. The Hoshi Ryokan was founded in 717 and it has been operated by members of the same family for more than 46 generations! |
Wow, 46 generations! I wonder how many spawn were murdered for attempting to run away and join the circus?
Of course being a traditional hotel in Japan, they must have bathing, separate indoors and mixed outdoors, in this case.

Ryokans involve sleeping on a futon on the floor, which will have straw mats on it. Damn good thing they have that lovely hot spring/bath. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Outdooor baaaaath.

Different customs and ones I have read up on.
And the harmony between man-made structures and nature, which seems to have been lost in Japanese cites, but it far more evident in their countryside than ours.

Have you seen that new season of programmes they've got planned? (I think channel 4) looking at Japanese culture. I can't wait. I think it'll be really interesting. I used to love watching Jonathon Ross's Japanorama.
