Aug 5, 2009: Ants
Ants are tiny, and it's a good thing after seeing how they carry this potato chip up a wall and into their home.
toranokaze Wednesday Aug 5 01:02 AM
Ants are scary

The epitome of teamwork!
nil_orally Wednesday Aug 5 03:19 AM
Formicating little bastards.
Antimatter Wednesday Aug 5 03:25 AM
Impressive, but they should eat more healthily if they want to stay fit.
SPUCK Wednesday Aug 5 05:12 AM
I wish I could ring a bell and have them clean up my dishes like that.
ZenGum Wednesday Aug 5 06:44 AM
But can they get the lid off the jar of salsa?
capnhowdy Wednesday Aug 5 07:25 AM
Why don't they just go to the food and eat it there? Wouldn't that be easier? Maybe they're not too smart after all.
Undertoad Wednesday Aug 5 08:23 AM
Wait! Listen carefully --
Sheldonrs Wednesday Aug 5 09:47 AM
And if you peep into the crack in the wall you'll see a tiny TV and bowls of pop corn and a keg.
Shawnee123 Wednesday Aug 5 09:57 AM
Those ants have high hopes!

I guess I'm getting cynical in my old age, but I think those pics were staged.

I think that I read all the ants in the world outweigh all the humans in the world. Can that be right?

blueboy56 Wednesday Aug 5 01:31 PM
I know of some ladies that would like that to happen to their ex-husbands.
Hillrick Wednesday Aug 5 02:06 PM
Hah! These ants think they're so smart but OBVIOUSLY they don't know about partially hydrogenated oils!
Sheldonrs Wednesday Aug 5 02:10 PM
Cloud Wednesday Aug 5 02:10 PM
'Cause they can only read Formish.
Wombat Wednesday Aug 5 07:12 PM

We always have a Springtime plague of ants at our place, so I have to kill
spudcon Wednesday Aug 5 11:48 PM
I kept waiting for a giant foot to come down and squash them all.
ZenGum Thursday Aug 6 12:21 AM
Here ya go:
TheMercenary Thursday Aug 6 11:41 AM
Man I would have waited til they got that sucker in and then filled that crack with liquid ant killer til it flowed out the cracks at the bottom of the wall.

Diaphone Jim Thursday Aug 6 12:18 PM
After looking at those pics several times and thinking about them for a day, I have to agree with dar.
Queen of the Ryche Thursday Aug 6 12:41 PM
Set-up agreed: Isn't there usually a trail of those suckers, not just one little conglomeration around a chip?
Shawnee123 Thursday Aug 6 12:43 PM
You're a bunch of antholes.
Shawnee123 Thursday Aug 6 12:50 PM
Happy Monkey Thursday Aug 6 12:53 PM
I've seen plenty of nature shows on PBS where ants team up to carry a large find back to the nest.
Queen of the Ryche Thursday Aug 6 12:54 PM
Yeah! Chip surfing! Woo hoo!!!
dar512 Thursday Aug 6 02:28 PM
My problem is with the second to last and last pictures. How do those little ants get the chip to go from vertical to horizontal? Just seems suspect to me.
Shawnee123 Thursday Aug 6 02:32 PM
Wow, you folks don't hang out much with ants, do you? They're super duper incredible!
TheMercenary Thursday Aug 6 02:42 PM
dar512 Thursday Aug 6 02:43 PM
Google knows everything.
York Thursday Aug 6 02:51 PM
Wooooow, how cool! Ive heard alot about ants and have some in my garden but never seen them do that! I ve only seen them crawl in my Beercan and get out again drunk! And thats it, all day long! Maybe because theyr all Belgian ants?

If those ants want that chip in that crack, they'll find a way. When I was a kid, I used to put different things on anthills, just to see how they'd cope. They always solve the problem. I once put a large Nightcrawler worm on a red ant hill, and they swarmed and worked all day until they made their hole big enough to drag him in.

I think we were on vacation when this IOTD occurred. Better late that never, though, eh?
I could tell you how I happened across it, but then I might have to kill you. However, I believe this is what it was missing:
