xoxoxoBruce Saturday Oct 31 11:32 PMNov 1, 2009: Time Travel Mart
Well, where else are you going to get those time travel supplies, huh?
Quote:
Brought to you by 826, the same organization responsible for the Superhero Supply store in Brooklyn and the Pirate Supply Company in San Francisco, The Echo Park Time Travel Mart is a time travel-themed retail store that boasts the slogan, "Whenever you are, we're already then." The store sells humorous relics from the past, present and future, such as Barbarian Repellent, Michael Jordan pogs and varying Robot Emotions.

C'mon, this time travel is serious business... it's a jungle out there.
Quote:
All proceeds from the Echo Park Time Travel Mart go to funding the non-profit organization, and the playful store theme serves to inspire creativity in its students, as well as bring a unique way of advertising 826LA to the local community. Though the shop primarily features quirky time travel items, such as Time-Freezy Hyper Slush ice drinks and Wooly Mammoth Chunks, visitors can also browse and purchase the students' publications, which are appropriately displayed in a freezer.

If they're not going to take it seriously, sigh, at least it's for a good cause.

capnhowdy Sunday Nov 1 08:00 AMNo. That's their store hours.
monster Sunday Nov 1 08:10 AM826 is a non profit organization promoting writing skills in young people.
This is from 826 Michigan whose store is Robot Supply and Repair.
826michigan is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students aged 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Here's more about the stores.

They do good stuff, folks. 826michigan was founded by my writer friend, Steve Gillis, although he has sisnce moved on to other good things.
monster Sunday Nov 1 08:11 AMI think it was named after the street number of the first building they used, btw, but I could be wrong, it's been known
xoxoxoBruce Sunday Nov 1 09:16 AMYou got it right this time, Monster... Cloud, too.
There's a link to 826 in the original post.
Maybe I could go back in time and make it bigger?
monster Sunday Nov 1 11:24 AMhey, you know, you just didn't sell it enough
They get kids writing, people! mostly in less-privelidges areas. They provide awesome free workshops. And homework help. and one-on-one mentoring. Most of the volunteers are stinky unwashed writers, though, so good job this wasn't IOTD on a Friday.
spudcon Sunday Nov 1 03:26 PMThanx all. I guess I'll have to book a trip to NYC to shop there for something I didn't know I needed. I'll bet I can get a new Potatoman cape there. And help create some future unwashed writers too.

exactly so, grasshopper.
The curiosity the number arouses is worth 826 words -they'd have gone with a picture for the round 1000, but it needs to be reproducable with a standard font
