This was an art project, rather than a teaching aid, by a man with time, and 24 other letters, on his hands.

But looks like you can't do the sign for 'fire' with a matchbook...oh the irony.

I believe its just the alphabet, isn't it?

Well, the video I saw on the interwebs shows it as a hand-waving type thing.

Yes, but what he did with the matchbooks is just the alphabet, there's much more to ASL.
