June 8, 2010: Dog slum in Brazil

The Brazilian city of Caxias do Sul is where this is noticed: a "slum for dogs", it mirrors the tin roof slum conditions in nearby human lives, but here in dog form. As the link notes,

Quote:
Without enough money to build a proper shelter for 1,600 abandoned pooches, the humane organization So Ama, or “Just Love,” keeps the animals chained to an array of about 1,000 small dog houses that look like the Brazilian slums made famous by movies such as “City of God.”

Normally in poverty conditions, the dog's life would be much worse. At least this is something.

Who are they kidding? That's a ranch.

Shawnee123  Wednesday Jun 9 08:27 AM

I prefer mustard, but if you want ranch dressing we'll make sure to have some.

Spexxvet  Wednesday Jun 9 08:42 AM

Looks more like a Levttown. I think a slum would be apartment buildings or row homes.

Shawnee123  Wednesday Jun 9 08:52 AM

I just had the cutest vision of a bunch of goggies hanging around a delapidated old brownstone.

Trilby  Wednesday Jun 9 09:14 AM

Hipster goggies!

Sheldonrs  Wednesday Jun 9 09:34 AM

The houses are fine but where's the parking?

spudcon  Wednesday Jun 9 01:35 PM

And the tennis courts?

Spexxvet  Wednesday Jun 9 01:51 PM

And the human pound.

Shawnee123  Wednesday Jun 9 02:26 PM

There should be a poker room!

monster  Wednesday Jun 9 07:03 PM

Dog projects? They probably have those somewhere in North Philly.

They're dogs. They'll poke her wherever they can.

ZenGum  Thursday Jun 10 08:51 AM

Tune in on Thursday evening for the new hit reality TV show! 1600 stray dogs are housed in a slum, and each day, viewers vote to eliminate one dog. The loser is fed to the others that night. The last dog left wins a million dollars! Don't miss Dog Slum Millionaire this Thursday night!
