Kolmanskop, Namibia

Kolmanskop is an abandoned diamond mine near the coast. The ghost town has several residences and barrack-type accommodations, as well as the remains of a few commercial establishments. Today the town is a photographer's dream come true. One cannot spend enough time taking in all the photographic opportunities. For this photograph I had to crawl through a small opening in a window and have my friend pass my camera gear to me.—Caption by Chris Gray

I love how the building has been reclaimed by the sand and how looking through the doors (and windows?) it looks like the view could go on forever. Kind of like looking into infinite reflections of mirrors reflecting mirrors.

It reminds me of fantasy/surrealistic artwork that used to be printed on postcards and notecards. One of my favorite themes was looking through ongoing windows or doorways to the skies beyond.

I also love the colorful walls. That's a beautiful color of blue on the first wall.

Gorgeous! I would love a print of that picture.

It doesn't look real. Looks like a painting!

That's what I thought.

Yeah, I'm having a very hard time perceiving it as real.

It looks like a painting to me too, albeit by an excellent draughtsman (Dali comes to mind).
My comments notwithstanding, I'd like to thank you for your IoTD contributions Cali. Jolly good show.

His hair proves it.

Somebody needs to sweep that floor.
