Feb 6th, 2014 Marbles

Marbles, glass marbles, everyone has seen and probably owned some time in their life.
Nothing remarkable about these, except they belonged to Annelies Marie Frank. Yeah, that Anne Frank.

Quote:
70 years after Anne Frank died in a Nazi concentration camp some of her toys have been recovered. Shortly before Anne and her family went into hiding from the Nazis, she gave away some of her toys to a non-Jewish neighbourhood girlfriend, Toosje Kupers, for safekeeping. For years a tin box with the marbles remained in a cupboard, and were only discovered again during a recent house move. They will go on display for the first time this week at the Kunsthal museum in Rotterdam.

They got used a lot more than her drum kit...

I used to have a bunch of those German ceramic marbles in my marble kit. They didn't do well in bombsies.

What a moving IOTD! Thanks, Bruce.
With thousands, millions, of children suffering as Anne Frank did, we have only had her and a very few other stories.
They continue to pay for our greed and quest for power on this very day.
War is not good for children and other living things.

Them's some well-used marbles.
