Rube Goldberg is famous for his complex and humorous solutions to problems, real and imagined. Some of his solutions were for problems created by his solutions to earlier problems. Talk about job security. Well Britain had their own "Rube Goldberg" in Heath Robinson, who's illustrations were just as zany.
This was his solution to having a party without raising the ire of a neighbor.

Robinson is noted for not only his ridiculous contraptions, but also his anti-war sentiment, and bolstering British morale during WW I and WW II.
