Oct 25th, 2016: Flight Path

This guy parks his butt near airports for days at a time to make composite photographs of the air traffic.

I'm sure he's on the NSA/FBI watch list.

Carruthers  Tuesday Oct 25 05:12 AM

Thanks for posting that, Bruce. It makes you realise just how busy major airports are.

It's unfortunate that he didn't state the locations of the images, although perhaps I just couldn't find them.
Heathrow was recognisable and some could at least be narrowed down to country or airport judging by the preponderance of a particular airline, eg KLM at Schiphol.

ETA Topical note.
A decision on which London airport is to be expanded is expected to be announced about midday today. It seems likely that Heathrow will be the lucky winner.

The Queen is probably resigned to that happening, but I bet she is not amused. Windsor is directly in line with the flight path out of Heathrow and the air traffic noise is remarkable there. It's like living next to the interstate. In a castle.

The Queen is very old, so she probably can't hear shit anyway.

I read somewhere that HMQ is adept at identifying some aircraft types by engine sound alone. I didn't find that article, but I did find this from July 2015:

Quote:
The Queen could receive millions of pounds to soundproof Windsor Castle from the noise of planes from an expanded Heathrow, it was claimed today.

A £1billion compensation fund has been promised for communities under flights paths including help to limit the impact of noise would be set aside if Heathrow gets to go ahead for a third runway.

It is suggested that the Queen could be one of the main beneficiaries to curb the noise of flights over the 900-year-old castle where she spends her weekends.
Queen could get 'millions' to soundproof Windsor Castle from the noise of flights from expanded Heathrow

The decision was made at lunchtime:

Third runway at Heathrow cleared for takeoff by ministers

Those are very cool photos.
In the middle bottom and middle right ones, I would have expected the cows to move around more.

xoxoxoBruce  Tuesday Oct 25 12:25 PM

Probably because they're composites. Take a picture of one plane with background and cows, then add subsequent aircraft as they appear.

Nah. Cutouts.
