Feb 1st, 2017: Maxi Pearl

This is the biggest natural pearl from a clam ever found, that we know of.
A bigger one might have been found by Grog and Shag, or be hidden in a despot’s evil lair?
At around 30cm(11.8in) wide by 67cm(26.4in) long, and 34kg(75lb), it’s heavier and larger than the current record holding Pearl of Lao Tzu, also known as the Pearl of Allah, by over five times.

Seems this unnamed (probably one of Slang’s relatives) fisherman from the Puerto Princesca, Philippines, caught his anchor on something in a storm. When it blew over, it looked like it was a shell so he swam down to retrieve the anchor, and also brought the shell up. I wonder what the clam with pearl weighed? He kept the pearl under his bed as a good luck charm… for ten years.

Hmm, I wonder if everyone else on the boat died suddenly/tragically during that period?

A fire in his shack caused him to drag it out and people told him it’s valuable.
The Pearl of Lao Tzu, also from the Palawan sea, weighs 6.4kg(14lb) is worth US$35 million. So they estimate this pearl is worth US$100 million.

OK, the biggest, rarest, a prestigious possession, so it’ll bring big bucks
BUT, it’s really not “pretty” in the tradition jewel sense, it’s too big to be worn, too valuable to be a door stop or even left unguarded. I suppose it would look nice in an aquarium for a fish named Wanda. Or run a lottery to guess how long it would take to dissolve in vinegar.

Gross.

I mean, cool in theory, but... gross.

Ideal to cast before a million pig hog farm.

SPUCK  Monday Feb 6 03:08 AM

Is it just me or does that look like a pile of nippley breasts?

Gravdigr  Monday Feb 6 04:02 PM

I see a nipple.

Maybe one of those multi-breasted alien girls you see in fantasy stories got gulped by a giant clam, and pearlized.
