Aug 8th, 2018: Alcohol and Cars

Since the appearance of the automobile there has been a strong connection with alcohol, occasionally burning it
for fuel, but more often the driver was oxidizing it.
The automobile got a jump start when Bertha Benz drove 88km(55miles) from Mannheim to Pforzheim, causing
a lot of men to drink. Alcohol might have contributed to the ever increasing daring feats pushing limits and progress.
Being able to drive, and being able to drink, were milestones in life, maybe more so for boys but girls too.
The Mad Man caught on quickly.



Hollywood got it.

The moonshine runners got into racing which evolved into NASCAR which sells lots of alcohol.
I knew a girl with a champagne colored car who tied alcohol, cars and sex together. I had a Mercury Turnpike
Cruiser you could hold an orgy in, the Mustang not so much, but that’s another story.
A lot of hobbies and crafts connect the two, as well as stupid stunts.



But unfortunately that combination of alcohol and cars ended up with a lot of fatalities.
So MADD campaigned to pass draconian laws which managed to kill 99% of the local music venues that sold
alcohol for the money to hire bands.
A fortune was spent on anti drunk driving campaigns and a fortune on anti Marijuana campaigns.
If they hadn’t done the latter they could have spent a lot less on the former.
