Undertoad Tuesday Sep 9 12:10 PM9/9/2003: Surgically implanted hearing aid

It's nice to roll two strangely similar IotDs together like this.
This hearing aid is actually implanted into the skin of the guy wearing it. With this device, the person "hears" the sound as normal, but different frequencies are amplified, so that people with hearing losses in certain frequencies can get a louder blast of them.
The idea seems to be to make the device less intrusive so that you forget it's even there. The opposite of ear horns.
This is a benefit to those of us born after the baby boomers: they solve problems like this for us before we need them.

xoxoxoBruce Tuesday Sep 9 03:13 PMI would guess the tube is implanted and this sucker plugs into it, as I can't imagine trying to change that little battery while it's behind the ear. I haven't seen any that are waterproof either.
It might be more comfortable but forgetting it's there? Doubt it.
Griff Tuesday Sep 9 03:22 PMI dunno I've always had doubts about the idea of using amplified sound to remedy a problem caused by loud sounds. I'm hoping for a microsurgical solution to my tintinitus someday. Until then I'm going to try to avoid stuff like the indoor bagpipes I ran into last weekend.
ferkelparade Tuesday Sep 9 03:36 PMYour tintinitus? Is that something where you constantly hear the swearing of a bearded sailor and the yapping of a tiny white dog?
warch Tuesday Sep 9 03:43 PMIn French.
xoxoxoBruce Tuesday Sep 9 03:49 PMMine is a red guy with horns and tail saying "Go ahead, who's gonna know, why not, have fun, one more won't hurt".

Mine is more like RinTinTinitus, constant whine like a large german sheperd is lodged in the ear canal.
