9/17/2003: World Mudbowl Championships

Happy Wednesday! This is a shot from the World Mudbowl Championships, which took place recently in North Conway, New Hampshire. Eight New England teams fought to win the bowl which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.

It's "two-hand touch" American football. For our worldly visitors, this is the same as the regular game, except that you officially stop the ball carrier if you touch him with both hands. As opposed to tackling the ball carrier, where you bring him to the ground completely. In the mud it doesn't look like there's much difference...

Silly New Englanders. How can it be the WORLD championship when they're all from this little patch of the world?

dave Wednesday Sep 17 12:26 PM

That's not mud. It's liquid feces.

sh*ts vs. skins

Looks more like they are playing "Get as dirty as possible"... which sounds rather fun, actually...

warch Wednesday Sep 17 04:15 PM

That is a very cool photograph.

xoxoxoBruce Wednesday Sep 17 05:52 PM

You're right there, warch. That's one in a million.

It's the World championships because non-New Englanders are naturally inferior. Therefore the best N.E. team IS the World champ.

Leah Wednesday Sep 17 06:20 PM

Not a sport I would ever participate in. Why does everything have to end up looking like "liquid Poo" dave? Why the fascination?

dave Wednesday Sep 17 06:55 PM

There's no fascination. It's the first time I've mentioned it. And the reason I did is because it was the subject of another IotD. And it wasn't "liquid Poo". It was liquid feces. If you're in any way offended, I recommend removing the bug from your ass.

Leah Wednesday Sep 17 07:11 PM

Not offended dave, not at all. Also there's no bug up my ass just to set the record straight. :p

ndetroit Wednesday Sep 17 07:52 PM

and by "bug", he actually means "liquid feces" ..

*cough*..

dave was actually referring to this enchanting thread from a few days ago:

Thanks but no thanks Bruce. Believe me I'm bug free.

xoxoxoBruce Wednesday Sep 17 10:47 PM

Just trying to be helpful.

Leah Wednesday Sep 17 10:50 PM

I know, thanks sweetie

Saraax Thursday Sep 18 12:21 AM

Ya'll are all so personal, sounds like you know each other in the real world....

Saraax Thursday Sep 18 12:24 AM

oh yea...and how much fun can it be getting mud out of your TEETH...

Leah Thursday Sep 18 01:39 AM

Some body forget to tell me that this isn't the real world. Oops.

dasviper Thursday Sep 18 02:38 PM

mudbowl

A local fraternity does the same thing here at Dartmouth, just down the road from North Conway. Here's my shot from the school paper

Undertoad Thursday Sep 18 02:56 PM

Nice. I should think a really good BELT would be the most important equipment here.

(That's belt as in holdin' up yer trousas, not belt as in belt of scotch.)

xoxoxoBruce Thursday Sep 18 06:09 PM

Either, or better yet both, UT.
