9/18/2003: Dickhead plate purchased

What do you do, if there's someone you really don't like? If you're really brilliant, you invent an insult so strong that it resonates through the ages, and then use the media to get it out to the world.

I dunno if that's exactly the case here, but according to the story, this plate was created by a 16th Century potter, who included that enscription: "Ogni homo me guarda come fosse una testa de cazi" (Every man looks at me as if I were a dickhead).

And according to the story, the plate was created "presumably with an individual in mind" but the insult "is still a common term of abuse in Italy and elsewhere."

Thus Cellar's own tw, in calling Ariel Sharon a "dichead", might be using an insult created in the 1500s in Italy? Dunno.

But in any case, an Oxford museum has paid L240,000 ($400,000 or so) for the plate.

And here I was thinking a dickhead plate purchaser was one of those idiots who pay extra to get a NASCAR number on their liscence plate.

Yeah. He's got a nice sense of humor.

I got a chance to go to the Louvre last year. That's how I discovered him. They had a nice collection of his and I wrote his name down.

cool! Ive never seen any Arcimboldo paintings or prints in real life. Composite heads seem to have been a rage from the royal parties to the wealthy merchants. I think old dickhead is the funniest I've seen.

this is just plain disurbing...

You know, I wonder if they actually used it?

Bruce, you're not trying to say you wouldn't find enjoyment out of an aristocratic woman eating off of a dick head now are you?:p
