8/30: Incredible plane collision (thx lisa)

lisa noticed that I was running a lot of plane collision shots and sent this along. It's more incredible when you realize that these two planes actually collided and stuck together in the air, not on the ground.

The bottom plane was being flown by a student pilot with her instructor. The two planes were on final approach when suddenly the bottom plane saw the nosewheel of the top plane coming through its windshield.

The top plane's pilot tried to pull up, but couldn't because the planes were attached at that point. The flight instructor took over the landing of the bottom plane, landed on the grass in the hopes of preventing a fire.

The damage was relatively minimal; the top plane was flown home the next day and the bottom plane went for minor repairs. And the student pilot continued to fly. I should think that if you survive this, you figure general aviation is pretty safe.
