3/31/2004: Red iceberg

Already covered elsewhere on the Cellar, but it deserves to be included here too. This iceberg is not naturally that color, it was painted that way by Chilean-born Danish artist Marco Evaristti. His crew of 20 guys took 3,000 liters (780 gallons) of dye, three fire hoses, and two icebreakers to get the job done.

full story

It's art alright, but at whose expense!

"We all have a need to decorate Mother Nature because it belongs to all us," Danish artist Marco Evaristti said Thursday. "This is my iceberg; it belongs to me."

jdbutler  Wednesday Mar 31 02:31 PM

It sure beats the yellow snow I see in Pittsbrrrrg in the winter.
Also, I bought a new crock-pot today. Will slo-cook my pile and have a nice-crock-o-shit when I get home from work tomorrow.

MachineyBear  Wednesday Mar 31 04:22 PM

We should decorate his front yard with dog feces.

Zenchou  Wednesday Mar 31 05:30 PM

I could accept this as art, but only on one condition: He changed the dye to blue snow cone flavor, mmmm...blue raspberry giant snow cone....

Why do you feel you have to be the shit stirrer and can opener?

Pearcie (AUS)  Wednesday Mar 31 07:21 PM

Art schmart!

Art? Yeah, whatever you reckon.

The fish in the blender thing I liked, at least it "made u think" but this is just a bored artist who had heaps of red paint lying around and nothing better to do with his time.

Official critique: wanker

I was thinking along those same lines, MB; something like we should go and paint his grass silver and hang shredded aluminum icicles all over his trees. After all, those are part of nature, too, and therefore his yard and trees belong to *us*!

Nothing But Net  Thursday Apr 1 01:27 AM

It looks like a used tampon.

A gigantic, well-used tampon, floating in a sea of Bloo, with dramatically soaring porcelain-like icebergs all round.

Earl Scheib could have done that for $29.95!

xoxoxoBruce  Thursday Apr 1 07:11 AM

Hmmm...I remember when that was $19.95.

Nice call LJ. Didn't hinterlands.cc beat cellar to the punch on this one? Is UT losing his edge? News at 11.

Undertoad  Thursday Apr 1 11:32 AM

How utterly pathetic and lame!

This is not the first time he got scooped, either.

(The Paintball too, man. Don't forget the paintball.)

jaguar  Thursday Apr 1 11:25 PM

It's like slashdot all over again, run for the hills (or hinterlands before then GNAA posts start!

(this is a joke, hinterlands and cellar do different stuff and I like both for different reasons, I'm just stirring up sit as per usual).

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Apr 2 04:36 AM

The coach takes the heat, but the team that let him down, is really at fault.

warch  Friday Apr 2 10:17 AM
