6/4/2004: Well-balanced goat

A Pakistani street entertainer balances his goat on a pole as children enjoy the show, in Islamabad.

You'd figure a mountain goat would be able to do something like this, as apparently, they have the most remarkable balance, to be able to manage climbing and standing on rocky hills.

melidasaur Friday Jun 4 02:23 PM

I wonder how he gets the goat up there? Maybe he coaxes it with food...

It is true that mountain goats are extremely sure footed animals - I saw a show about them on the National Geographic channel.

I could be completely wrong, but it looks like that stick it's standing on breaks apart into smaller segments. He might have the shortest segement (top one) on the ground. Gets the goat on it, then adds the others underneath. Lifting the goat by the stick segment might be a challenge.

What do I know?

I think that's a great explaination.

Naw, way too heavy for that.

The fakir could be stronger than he looks.

Or the platform could really be a rope trick or the thing with the basket and the snake and the guy just really doesn't like snakes so he uses a goat instead?

Carbonated_Brains Friday Jun 4 03:08 PM

I'm more curious how he gets the goat to balance it's head on that skinny little rope.

Clodfobble Friday Jun 4 03:14 PM

He's just making sure he eats a balanced diet.

lookout123 Friday Jun 4 03:19 PM

all i have to say is let's definitely not pick a fight with a society which produces who know how to train goats to do that. seriously.

jaguar Friday Jun 4 03:27 PM

That goat has some cute anklets and interesting leather headwear.

That's for the after hours show.

chrisinhouston Friday Jun 4 04:03 PM

Both the goat and the man look like they are in some kind of transcendental meditation, silently reciting their mantras.

Man: "big money from show, big money from show..."
Goat: "goat food, goat food..."

melidasaur Friday Jun 4 04:11 PM

I bet the goat does not get fed until after the show - I can imagine that it's balance would be upset if it had to go to the bathroom. Not to mention, the guy would get his hand pissed on.

Jag,..uh..do you find the goats attire, er...um...arousing?

hermex Friday Jun 4 06:25 PM

Hey, I'm not into having sex with goats, it's not my bag. But you gotta admit, that's a pretty good-looking goat. I mean, if you had to have sex with one goat, you could do a lot worse than this one. And so nimble too!

lookout123 Friday Jun 4 07:32 PM

so you are saying there is something wrong with having a caring, intimate relationship with a goat? bigot. i'm calling the aclu

Beletseri Saturday Jun 5 08:31 AM

Goats like to climb. They do it for fun. I imagine it would be rather easy to train a goat to do that. Start with a larger platform on top and slowly reduce the size.

chrisinhouston Saturday Jun 5 08:51 AM

My uncle had a farm up in Minnesota when I was a kid and I used to go there for part of the summer. They had a goat that liked to get up on the roof of one of the chicken houses, got a good breeze up there. It had to jump up about 6 feet to get there and did it in one standing leap.

jojomonkeygirl Saturday Jun 5 12:33 PM

Someone has to mention the kid in the blue.....I think he may be alittle 'light in the loafers' if you know what I mean.

jaguar Saturday Jun 5 12:34 PM

No, I don't.

lumberjim Saturday Jun 5 01:30 PM

not the guy squatting, jag...the one in the background with the hand on hips posture......jojo might be right...'cept he gots no loafers

jaguar Saturday Jun 5 01:41 PM

I know who she means but I don't understand what she's getting at. God this combined with that FUCKING puzzle has me feeling like someone gave me a beating with the stupid stick overnight.

lumberjim Saturday Jun 5 01:45 PM

jag,
go stand in front of your mirror, put your hand on your hip like that kid and say," oh, look how thweet i look" until you get it.

lumberjim Saturday Jun 5 01:48 PM

oh. duh. "light in the loafers" means homosexual in american.

and you'refeeling dumb........

....well...effeminate, anyway

jaguar Saturday Jun 5 01:55 PM

Well I'll add that to the list of expressions I've never heard before =)

lumberjim Saturday Jun 5 01:58 PM

jaguar Saturday Jun 5 02:03 PM

yea what the hell I'll write it of as cultural education.

lumberjim Saturday Jun 5 02:13 PM

OK

York Friday Jun 25 08:16 AM

You're living up to that, right?

Sarasvati48 Monday Jul 23 03:56 PM

Goats are sure footed creatures that can balance on a dime...heck, they can climb trees and the sides of mountains!
