6/11/2004: Baby wombat

This is a four-month-old baby wombat, held by keeper Lana Langdale at Sydney's Taronga Zoo.

Her name is Cherry.

Beestie  Friday Jun 11 10:37 AM

Damn, for a minute I thought it was Courtney Love.

Griff  Friday Jun 11 11:28 AM

Lets play name the wombat.....Archie!

wolf  Friday Jun 11 01:56 PM

Scrunch.

melidasaur  Friday Jun 11 02:36 PM

so that's a wombat... I would name him Cody.

Tricoloreyes  Friday Jun 11 03:49 PM

Name for baby...

I would name him/her Wilard after that most famous rat that Michael Jackson sang a song for.

MAdMoNKEY  Friday Jun 11 04:09 PM

Osama.

jaguar  Friday Jun 11 04:38 PM

Just don't hit it with a car, those things have caused writeoffs.

chrisinhouston  Friday Jun 11 04:54 PM

Yea I saw one website that sais they can get up to 3 feet long!

Here is a movie clip of one:

http://www.tased.edu.au/tot/fauna/wombat.mov

jaguar  Friday Jun 11 05:10 PM

that clip makes them look cute in a bulky kind of way, in reality they can be mean little fuckers, a bit like more aussie flora and fauna now I think about it. Nothing like a tourist who just had an angry koala piss on thier head.

Or some idiot backpacker getting his head kicked in outside the Green Room.

xoxoxoBruce  Friday Jun 11 08:59 PM

Serious claws.

Clodfobble  Friday Jun 11 09:01 PM

It looks a lot like a baby ROUS to me.

Elspode  Friday Jun 11 10:44 PM

Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't believe they exist.

Elspode  Friday Jun 11 10:45 PM

Oh...and he reminds me of Spuds McKenzie.

Guess  Friday Jun 11 11:26 PM

ugh- he's waving at us!

Not to spoil your fun, but that was "Ben," the sequel to Willard. The only thing it had over the original was a catchy theme song.

jojomonkeygirl  Saturday Jun 12 02:27 AM

it kinda looks like my sister's baby

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday Jun 12 05:38 AM

Bwahahahaha,.....I asume your sister does NOT read the Cellar.

Slartibartfast  Saturday Jun 12 01:41 PM

I thought a wombat was a girl bat. You know.... male/female, bot/fembot, man/woman, bat/wombat

dar512  Saturday Jun 12 03:01 PM

Ah. But how do they taste barbequed?

Mmmmm. Wombat.

xoxoxoBruce  Saturday Jun 12 11:05 PM

They taste like Womchicken.

tweek  Sunday Jun 13 05:08 PM

The rat's name is actually "Ben." Willard is the freaky guy. Damn, get it straight!

wolf  Sunday Jun 13 05:17 PM

The featured rat in Willard was named "Socrates."

xoxoxoBruce  Sunday Jun 13 08:21 PM

I think Ben had his own movie, didn't he?

wolf  Sunday Jun 13 10:12 PM

Yep. With a cute, charming, kid co-star too.

Bruce Davison just had Ernest Borgnine.

The rats were cuter than he.

jdbutler  Monday Jun 14 09:43 AM

Just a demented observation...
Is that a womb-bat between his legs?

xoxoxoBruce  Monday Jun 14 04:06 PM

Jd, you're sick and twisted.
I like that.

York  Friday Jun 25 08:01 AM

euh...Tombat? Dumbat? Wim? Wannes?
