Undertoad Wednesday Nov 16 08:10 PM11/16/2005: Etna erupting via the ISS

Mount Etna erupting - did someone suggset this? I think so but I've lost the note. I always do that, not on purpose.
This is one of ten of the International Space Station's best images from space, for the last five years, according to this NASA ISS image collection.
At that site, there's also a wonderful shot of Frisco Bay breathing silt. Quite good. And a Los Angeles at night shot, similar to the famous world-at-night images we've come to enjoy. Recommended.
BigV Wednesday Nov 16 08:18 PMThank goodness. For a minute, I thought I'd gone blind--I couldn't see the IotD. Now it's clear that I couldn't see the time...
From space? How high? Wow. Look at the bright sun shining down on everything. Everything except the poor saps in the shadow of the plume. They probably think "Armageddon".
xoxoxoBruce Wednesday Nov 16 08:54 PM10 very nice pictures.
LAX and Disneyland really stand out in the LA at night picture.
Undertoad Wednesday Nov 16 10:45 PMHere's a slightly larger version, sized from their massive one. Beaut.

Amazing image.
capnhowdy Thursday Nov 17 09:31 AMDon't screw with Mother Nature, unless you want frizzy hair.
I bet that cloud of silt is at least 5 miles high.

Supposedly the same incident, this time with a wider angle view, already featured here on the cellar: 1/22/2003: Etna from ISS.
