Are there tomatoes wasted? can you put a price on fun? Could they really be shipped to help the starving? I get a lot of inedible tomatoes off my vines, I'm really not sure shipping them to Detroit nevermind Africa would be a wise move. or appreciated. So we have fun with them.

But I appreciate your sentiment.

Yeah, and think of all the potable water wasted cleaning up... and the ruined clothing that could clothe naked people... and the wasted seeds that could grow enough tomatoes to make pizza for everybody in Africa.

Eh? I'm still with uomo. I think that is a huge conspicuous (and pathetic) waste.

Anything that causes that many people to have that much fan can't be wasteful. Think of all the positive vibes they are sending out to the universe! We need more of that.

But what about the children? Oh, the humanity!

Shawnee123 09-01-2009 09:05 AM

Oh my, seriously? They could switch to cans of Prego, perhaps, then ship the cans they threw and wallowed in to Somalia?

No one ever thinks of the sober people in third world countries, either. I see people throwing beer away because it's warm, mixed drinks because someone ashed in it, wine because it was sold before its time. What a waste.

It's a valid point, and you're certainly entitled take that view.
Same goes for uomo, although I'm troubled by him taking his dislike for what other people do with their stuff to the point of vitriol.

Meh, I guess one person's passion is another person's hate.
Oh by the way, welcome to the Cellar, uomo. :D

Hi Bruce. Thank you for welcoming me. Been reading up really interesting things at the cellar for years but never cared enough to say anything until Tomatina.

Wiki claimed that the tomatoes are over-ripe and I believe that. However, I also believe that the tradition will not survive unless the extra tourism was good for the local economy.

Vitriol? Einstein said it more politely I suppose.
