Speaking as a smoker who has made a couple lame attempts to quit...
Everything you do is a choice. Everything. Each cigarette must be purchased, removed from the package, put in your mouth, lit, and smoked. We each have our own excuses, but in the end, the only one who can stop one of those steps from being performed is you.
Cold turkey sucks, and most people who try it fail. However, those who stay off cigarettes cold turkey for more than 3 months are more likely than others to stay quit. (info courtesy of my dad or someone).
I still smoke about 5 cigarettes a day, sometimes more. But I did quit a 20 year smokeless tobacco habit cold turkey. It was SHITTY for about a month, but I rarely think about it anymore. And I had a dip in my mouth every waking moment from about age 14 on. I haven't really kept track, but I think the last Skoal I had was in 2002 or 2003.
I'd really love a dip. But it's easy not to, now. Not dipping is my new habit.
