J and I get new cars one after the other
http://cellar.org/2008/jandtcars.jpg
Thanks to Mr. LJ and his fine dealership, we have here a closely-matched pair of Sentra SE-Rs. 2 months after I got mine, J totals her ancient Neon, and we enjoy the SE-R so much, that she gets a nearly identical one. Hers in gray mines in silver. Are we weird for having the same car? It's a damn cool car. |
No, that's not weird. Awesome cars J and UT. But more importantly, she wasn't injured was she? If I missed this all in an earlier thread feel free to ignore me.
|
Well of course you know I approve, but Ive experienced the same-car syndrome and know other will think you're weird.
When Jim and I moved into this house he just happened to have a demo identical to my blue grand cherokee. Several neighbors approached us... "So, you like the blue jeeps eh...?" Congratulations Jaquelita! |
No injury, just a short stop slow wreck causing $4000 damage to the Neon (which as LJ explains, at 160,000 miles, is worth apx. $500), and $0 to the Acura SUV, whose bumper is rather high up.
|
glad to hear it. Nice cars all around.
|
I think its a little weird...but I am fond of weird :)
Congrats J and glad there were no injuries. |

You just need his 'n' hers vanity plates......
....like beest and I. :D |
Thanks Everyone!
The Spec V is really a fun car to drive. Since I spend @ 3 hours a day in my car the enjoyment factor has added value. BTW Tony and I discovered that there are two minor differences between mine and his (aside from the color). I have some side molding he doesn't and my antennae has a spiraly thing that wraps around it. Thanks again Jim! |
The spiraly thing performs a very important function (but it's not related to station reception).
|
I don't think it's weird. But then I'm also very picky about cars, so I feel strongly that the one I've chosen is the best car, so of course it's only logical that my husband, or anyone else, would want one too.
Congrats on the new cars! |

Good for you guys! As long as you are both happy who cares if other people think you're weird?
|
congrats on the new wheels. Who cares what others think? You're both happy and that's all that really matters.
My wife and I recently bought a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche and we both like it, although I could do without the sensitive steering (mostly a transition issue from big truck to small one). We almost fight over who gets to drive. So when her Venture finally goes to that big junkyard in the sky (soon I hope), we will replace it with another Avalanche. I'd post pics of it but I don't want to steal Tony's thunder and I can't find the digital camera anyway. Brian |

When my wife and I decided it was time to have a l1ttl3_f3rr3t, we knew that our vehicles, a Chevy S-10 pickup and a 2-door Cavalier, weren't gonna cut it for transporting us and the little one. We lokked at just about every non-car vehicle available and we settled on a (beige) Pontiac Aztek as a replacement for the S-10. She drove that for about a year and then we looked again and found another one (red) to replace the Cavalier. We are known in the neighborhood as the couple with the matching Azteks, though they are of different color and model-year. |
I don't think it's weird.
I think the reason it's not more common is that couples firstly do not have the same needs and secondly the same tastes. If you do, it's a given! |
If I had had more $$$, I probably would have gotten a RAV4, which is what my wife owns. As long as you like your car, who cares if your SO owns the same thing?
Congrats, J...I'm still loving my new car...and it still smells like a new car too! |
The real question is: when you go somewhere together, how do you decide which one to take?
Our decision usually goes like this: Do you want to take the blue car or the yellow one? It looks like it might snow, we'd better take the gray car. or My car is low on gas, we'd better take yours. |
Given that J is on the road 3 hours a day, I suspect they'll take UT's on weekends.
|
Those look very gas efficient. I am so jealous right now. Just how good is the gas mileage? They are cute......It's not like you guys are wearing the same outfit or anything....lol! Don't worry about it!!

Having the same cars is a sign of freedom. We have two incredibly different cars (Windstar, Focus) and, while beest usually drives the Focus and I usually drive the Windstar, it's all based on what we are doing. Sometimes we call them "my car" and "your car", but not often. neither are our dream cars, but they do the A to B thing.
Usually, he goes to work by himself, 30 miles. Focus. Usually, I am carpooling kids, local. Windstar. Either of us takes 1 or 2 kids, limited equipment -Focus Either of us takes all 3 or 2 and lots of equipment - Windstar..... |
Not weird, but -- I think it would be more practical to have two different types. Like, a sedan for passenger trips, and a pickup for hauling stuff.
Or a minivan for the mom and a sports car for the dad. or vice versa. Just would give you more options. |
They get about 26-7 mpg driving around, about 31 highway.
|
My wife wants to trade in the Sequoia, we are looking at the Camry since it has some of the best gas mileage. I am a bit afraid of getting rid of anything that cannot tow a trailer in case we need to hightail it out of here in the case of a big assed hurricane. I am taking a serious look at the Mini Cooper as a commuter.
|
Oh yeah, an overpriced, uncomfortable little commuter is just what you need ;)

Coopers suck in wet or snowy conditions - poor braking too or so I've heard.
|
I don't think they have to worry about snow in Georgia...but here, we do. That was why I picked the SX4, which has all wheel drive. Now, my husband drives that to work every day since he commutes to the tech center. He tends to get around 30-32 mpg in that. I have a 2002 Envoy to wheel around our small town in. It gets about 15 gallons per mile, so we usually refrain from using it too much. But it is nice for long trips with 3 kids!
I love the matching cars, UT. I would have to pick the darker gray, too. If we had matching cars, the difference would be the CDs my husband and I have in them. Oh, and whether or not the outside trim was still attached. |

OR http://image.automobilemag.com/f/mul...gti_03_445.jpg it would be a tough choice for me. close in price, and economy. I've sat in both briefly, but don't really remember which was more comfortable. I'd have to drive both back to back, I think. |
Mmm...mini coopers are delicious...
My neighbor has 3, we live in the middle of the woods, and our roads rarely get plowed, he makes it back and forth in them well enough. At least I can't remember him ever getting stuck... |
After I saw these posts I walked over to the lodge (at Ohio Assoc of FA Administrator conference) and noticed one of the colleges has a "company" car and it's a mini...painted with their logo. It's really cute.
|
Yea...lot's of people are wrapping smart cars too.
Cool car? Get paid to wrap it in a logo!! Unless you drive like an a hole. Which I'm guessing, a lot of you do.... ;) |
My ex husband had a Porsche.
Because of the low ground clearance, when it snowed we always went in my Mini. Despite the fact that it didn't fit in the wheel tracks left by the other cars! We drove lopsidedly with one wheel in the track and the other on the snow. But if we'd come to grief, repairs would have been far cheaper. |
I've actually considered ditching my FJ for a mini. I rarely get off road anymore and we still have the truck for trips to mexico, so the gas mileage might be nice and I'm pretty sure the tires for a mini aren't $270 each.
|
I can't believe how much tires are these days...a tire for my car is $100. Jesus!
