Get a solid state disk first
The best thing you can do is get an SSD.
I bought one for $30 and it made an old laptop run like new!
Win10 will suck without one.

I still use AVG here
AVG is still sneaky.
It still works, however. I have it at home with a Win7 PC and put it on my niece's Win8.1 laptop and my wife's as well.
