AC coils frozen

Came back from VA and Sam's to find the coils frozen on ac. I just bought this sob in July 05.
Near as I can find on Goggle, it's low coolant.
Called and they told me would try to send someone tomorrow, but everyone was backed up.
Hey with my copd, emphysema and asbestos, tomorrow sucks.
I'm thinking if no one shows by noon, call and have a new one installed, charged to me. Then let them take the old one and hoe that row out themselves.
What are they going to do? Attach my wages.
BTW. I have a fan on it and looks like it might work awhile tonight.
I have a feeling that someone is going to try and screw me on 10 year guaranty.

A guy showed up around 3 PM and had a look, then borrowed a screw driver and tapped the thermostat 2 or 3 time and said $64.20 please.
Oh well it's cool now.

You were pretty much right about getting screwed on the guarantee, but at least it didn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm glad to hear it's working again, anyhow.

The AC unit at work freezes up all the time, mostly in the middle of December (yes, we run it year round). When it starts spitting chunks of ice on my head, we turn it off and let it warm up some.

I'll have to remember the banging on the thermostat thing.

It's not "banging". It's "percussive maintenance".

The unit is pretty much Afro-engineered. Sometimes you just need a bigger hammer, to encourage it to work properly.

I have had problems in the past with icing of evaporators, because of dust on the coils. I clean the coils every year, and rarely have a problem.
