Just watched the pilot. Verrrrrry impressed. I never read the comics, so I'm coming to this totally fresh. If the rest lives up to the pilot I'll be a very happy bunny.
I love the lead character. I think she might, on the basis of a single episode alone be my favourite ever female super hero. I like that she is flawed in interesting ways. You don't often get that kind of character in a female lead. She's sexual without being sexualised, which is so refreshing to see in superhero tv. Her gender is not her primary characteristic. Though the danger she faces from the main antagonist is one that plays with a fear many women can particularly relate to. It's the kind of threat we don't usually view from the female perspective when it crops up on tv. We usually get a kind of pseudo female perspective, in which the action is following the female character, but through the lens of an assumed male viewer - it's subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) different. The main antagonist, who we've only seen in glimpses as yet, played by David Tennant, seems a genuinely terrifying threat. Very unsettling idea. Looking forward to how that plays out. It's a nicely compelling story, with already some intriguing characters. For a pilot, I'm pretty impressed because the first thing I wanted to do when the credits rolled was play the next episode. I just took a break to write this and make a brew, then I'm diving back in. Anybody watching it?
