6/25/2003: Mud person festival
![]() Yesterday was June 24 and that means a bunch of Filipinos were celebrating the feast day of John the Baptist like good Catholics everywhere. But in one Filipino village, there has come about a tradition of covering one's self with mud and branches and stuff. Over time this has been noticed by tourists and so it has come to be the "Taong Putik Festival" -- taong putik meaning "mud person". ![]() Men, women and children all cover themselves in mud, dried banana leaves and vines, and then they go pray, and then they have a parade down the main street. Good times! |
