Ancient Threads....aka "diggin in da dirt"
I believe is was Miss Maggie, in a thread (I forget which) included a link that went to a post from 1993....
Was kinda neat to see. Are there anymore stored on the database, or did she have if archived on her personal computer? And another question I'll just tag on here, is, is this the primary board that you (any/everybody) started on; if not, what/when was it? |

My first board posts go back to about 1990, I think, but were all on KC local BBS's. I've never been anal enough to archive messages, so I wouldn't have anything to share.

My first was more of a chat room than a board. It was back in the early 80s. 1982, I think. Maybe as early as 1981. I hooked up to the Dartmouth U. computer from the Bates College computer. Dialed in from home on my dad's (he's a professor) Heathkit terminal. It was just the two schools that were linked back then. Those college students just loved having a junior high kid talking with them.

I remembered seeing the movies and such with the phone on the sender... I think mostly what killed my early interest in computer communications was this image of "computer time" or something about "you're charged for however long you connect"

To be honest I haven't been one for boards before, but the Cellar caught my attention, and as that was only last year I suppose I am a newborn ancient so to speak.
All this talk of Bulletin Boards does remind me, however, of my older son (now fast approaching 28) who at the age of 14 ran a BB from his bedroom - eventually ran to 6 phone lines coming into the place - phone company vans were a regular feature outside our house. It was called Niteflite, in case anyone ever came across it in the early 90's. The name just about says it all, and goes some fair way to explain why his school teachers were always complaining about his lack of energy in class!

My path was rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5, slashdot, kuro5hin, the Cellar. I still keep up with all of them, but I've just about lost interest in kuro5hin at this point.
