Noro Morales

Amazing sleeper of a record. Hot latin music with mind-blowing percussion; likely Tito Puente on timbales. Jesus Christ in heaven!! Thank God for cheap record labels.

Damn Right...

Flint. It's a world to explore and discover. My passion is to find music on vinyl that is NOT released on CD. Por exemplo, that Morales album looked like some stupid, run-of-the-mill piece of crap latin shite, but when I put it on, I had to admit that it was one of the best latin albums I've ever heard. Holy crap. It was so good that I kept playing one song over and over again. And then you google the artist and find out that they are well-respected. How would you know from that cover?

That girl is kinda cute, though. : )

Another reason I want to be able to Google things, from right there at the thrift store/garage sale, etc.

Long ago and far away, when vinyl was king, the stores would have bargain bins of "cut" albums. The jacket would have a hole, notch or cut off corner to signify the store and wholesaler had written the album off. Many of these albums were selling for less than a dollar and some as cheap as 3 for 50 cents.

There would always be a number of compilation albums like that Latin Beat or groups I never heard of. For the groups I had heard of, I usually already had the album, as did everyone I knew...... although it was a good place to replace albums that had been played to death or damaged.

I'd look through the stacks for cool jacket art or names of players I recognized. I think it was about this time I realized how many albums Billy Preston played on.
Most of the albums were in that rack for good reason....they sucked...but sometimes there would be a great cut or two on a turkey. But once in a while there would be a gem.....a gem nobody else had.

Indeedy yes.... back in the 70' oft frequentd the second-hand and remaindered stalls at Birmingham market..... like oxo, I was drawn by the cover-art or maybe a name that rung a bell. From thence, I found Michael Quattro (brother of Suzy) in the lap of the gods amogst others.... also Mandingo III .... a superb Latin-American/Caribean vinyl album with an extra-ordinary dynamic range. A mate of mine with a Revox 77 could'nt tape a decent copy, and even though it's now on CD, the vinyl is still miles better sonically speaking.

Do it. You'll probably need a little pre-amp as well...

Well, I did get that Bora Bora drum album to my audio man for conversion to MP3, but (and this is true) he lately came down with a case of the hives. Who the hell gets hives these days? But he did; his doc said it was probably stress. He runs his own audio-restoration business and he's had deadlines to meet. Favors for friends take a back seat.

But I promise I will post those beats ASAP.

Please visit my friend's operation at www.osirisstudio.com Check out his "projects" page. He has a dream job that, while maybe giving him hives, gives him income and personal satisfaction.
